He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard Smith and Effie Smith (Summerson); his grandparents, David and Myrtle Summerson-Stonebreaker (Thompson); his siblings, Eldon Smith, Myrtle Jane Briggs, Marie Goltry Eilers, Wilma Smith and Howard Smith, Jr.; his nieces and nephews, Michael Goltry, Chuckie English, Lori Breland and Scott Cline; and his great-niece Audrey Diana Zuchowski.

He is survived by: his sisters, Helen Puffer (Marion) of Addison, NY and Mary Cline (Kenneth) of Horseheads, NY. He is also survived by several aunts, nieces and nephews.
