He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph W. Smith and L. Louise Smith (Swift); his close friend Genevieve "Ginny" Domagalski (Smith); his parents-in-law, Joseph Domagalski and Genevieve Domagalski; his siblings-in-law, Joanne Platt (late Joseph Platt) and Joseph Fitzgerald; and his son-in-law Captain David M. Skiba.
He is survived by: his friends, Tony Russo and Gordie Christian; his brother John F. Smith of Voorheesville, N. Y.; his sisters-in-law, Denise Fitzgerald of Slingerlands, N. Y. and Angel Ketonen (Joel) of Garland, Texas; his niece Linda A. Skiba (Rodney Moon) of Waterford, N. Y.; his nephew Nicholas J. Smith Sr. (Katina Maniscalco Smith) of Latham, N. Y.; his great-niece Amy M. Burton of Clifton Park, N. Y.; his grandchildren, Nicole Skiba, Matthew Skiba (Emily), Angelica Smith (April), Felicia Wygel (Caleb), Nicholas Smith Jr., Joseph Smith (Sofia), Ryan Smith (Emily), Hollie Burton (Jason), Heather Burton, Robert Cleghorn III, Nicholas Cleghorn and Ava Cleghorn; his great grandchildren, Gabriel and Levi Wygel; and also Karen L. Cleghorn of East Greenbush, N. Y.. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joseph was a member of Christ Our Light Catholic Church, in Loudonville, N.Y. Because of Joseph's devotion of always putting others' needs before his own, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to your favorite organization in remembrance of Joseph J. Smith and his humble, beautiful, giving heart.
