He was predeceased by: his grandparents, Robert and Rita Matthews of Dublin, Ireland; his aunts, Valerie Matthews and Irene Matthews; his grandfather Earl Costello Sr. of Cohoes; his uncles, Sean Costello and Leo Shaw; and his godfather Richard Dawkins.
He is survived by: his parents, Gerard Matthews and Kathryn Matthews (Costello); his sisters, Deirdre Stynes (Joseph) of Cohoes, Siobhan LeBlanc (David) of Waterford, Niamh Schweitzer (Aiden) of Niskayuna and Tamara Kendsersky (Jordan Ross) of New Jersey; his nieces and nephews, Conall, Maeve, Saoirse Stynes, Tiernan, Aibhlinn Schweitzer and Reid Ross; his grandmother Marie Costello of Cohoes; and his son Cooper. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pride Center of the Capital Region or Church of the Holy Trinity or St. Ambrose food pantries.
