He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Herbert Vrooman, and Rosemary Vrooman, Sr. (Rafferty); his wife Shirley Vrooman (McMullen) of Amsterdam; his stepsons, George Liddle (Amy) of Rexford and Bruce Liddle (Jodi) of Esperance; his sons, James Vrooman, Jr. (Joanie) of West Winfield, Douglas Vrooman (Fran) of Clinton, TN and Mark Vrooman (Marianne) of Laconia, NH; and his siblings, Bernadetta Vrooman of Sharon Springs, Mary Ann Larkin (Edwin) of Sharon Springs, Herbert Vrooman, Jr. and Herta Mary Vrooman. He was also cherished by 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
