Gerard Toohig Obituary

Cobleskill - Gerard A. Toohig, 74, of Everett Street Cobleskill died Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at Samaritan Hospital after a long illness. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was son of the late Alfred Toohig and Margaret M. Cleary Toohig. He had resided most of his life in Cobleskill and was a 1965 graduate of Cobleskill-Richmondville High School.

Gerard worked for Niagara Mohawk and later National Grid for over 30 years, retiring in 2003 as an Equipment Operator. He served in the Marine Corps from 1965-1969 including a Tour of Duty in Vietnam and was a longtime member of The Fraternal Order of Eagles. Survivors include two sons, Kevin J. Toohig, Wynantskill and Michael Toohig, Newburgh; a sister, Geraldine Toohig, Cobleskill, her partner, Janice Schwartz; nieces and a nephew, Holly Myers, Paula Towery, Kelly Laing and Margaret 'Meg' and William Hensel and an uncle, Gerard Cleary, his wife, Barbara Gillespie Cleary, and their daughter, Diane Cleary VanDeusan.

He was predeceased by a brother, William 'Bill' Toohig and a cousin, Beth Cleary Wood. Funeral service private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Gerard Toohig to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley 304 Howe Cave Rd Howes Cave, NY 12092.
