He was predeceased by: his parents, George A. Smith and Eleanor Smith (Russell); and his brothers, Robert A. Smith (Trudy) and Richard Smith. He is survived by: his siblings, Nancy Castro (Ralph) of Sharon Springs and David Smith (late Rosemary) of Cobleskill; and his sister-in-law Diana Smith of Warnerville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
