He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin H. Callahan and Naomi Callahan (Nichols); his siblings, Lois, Rose, Patrick and William; and his brother-in-law Frederick Mosher.

He is survived by: his wife Georgia Welch; his children, Martin Howard Callahan III, Sherri Lynn Callahan, Timothy Michael, Jodi Callahan, Brian Patrick Callahan and Michelle Rose Carroll; his grandchildren, Kayla, Kolleen, Kristal, Zackary, Wyatt, Kyleigh, Broden, Geneva and Christin; his great grandchildren, Avery Marie and Emmilynn Marie; his siblings, Joyce Mosher, Katie Wright (Guy), Michael (Shelly), Charlie and Stanley Callahan; and his sister-in-law Cynthia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
