He was predeceased by: his parents, Marjorie Phinney and Francis Phinney of Clayton, NY; his brothers, Ronald and Patrick; and his pet Duke.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Augustine Phinney; his children, Kurt of Sarasota, FL, Michael and Jessica (Stephen Hanna); and his siblings, David (Teresa Phinney), Theresa Christensen and Jenni (David Lyle). He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
