He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin H. Bates and Laurine Bates (Fraley); his siblings, William Bates (Rose), Marilyn Barrett (Charles) and Helen Guyton (Al); his sister-in-law Rose O'Connor; and his sons-in-law, Timothy Algie and Warren Brown.
He is survived by: his wife Kathleen O'Connor; his children, Mary Bates Dorman, Margaret Algie Brown, Patrick J. Bates, Jeanne M. Bates (Jeffrey) and John F. Bates (Gail); and his brother-in-law John F. O'Connor. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 2nd 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. Mary's Church (St. Mary's Cemetery) (521 James St, Clayton, NY 13624). A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 2nd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
