He was predeceased by: his parents, James Cavanaugh and Mercedes Cavanaugh. He is survived by: his wife Mary Cavanaugh; his sons, Jimmer (Julianne Dixon) and Colin Cavanaugh (Emily Evans); his stepson Zach Burrell (Madison Campbell); and his siblings, Marihelen Curry (Steve) and Tim Cavanaugh (Donna). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
