He was predeceased by: his former wife Mary Axtell (Longley); and his siblings, Carlton Axtell (Samuel), Betty Cook and Barbara Fowler. He is survived by: his former wife Mary Longley; his wife Ruth Axtell (Shafer) of Chittenango; his children, Richard Axtell (Linda) of Martville and Rhonda Jones (Harry) of Ridgeland, SC; his stepchildren, Connie Gibson (Mike) of Oswego and Steve Shafer (Lauralee) of Chittenango; his brother Dale Axtell (Sue) of Centreville, MD; his grandchildren, Shawn Axtell (Jane) and Kacy Jones; and his stepgrandchildren, Renee Smith (Dan), Mike Baum (Jennifer), Nikki Newton (Scott), Matt Shafer, Corey Shafer, Ryan Grulich and Zach Grulich (Emilia). He is also survived by six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
