He was predeceased by: his parents, James Nichols and Beatrice Nichols; his stepfather Pete Custer; and his siblings, Jim, Kenneth "Tuff" Nichols, Donna Whitaker, Linda Parker and Gail Spry.
He is survived by: his wife Florence Nichols; his children, Dale Nichols of Cortland, Dwight Nichols (Debi) of North Syracuse and Melissa Nichols of Cazenovia; and his siblings, Jack Nichols (Phyllis) of North Carolina, Marjorie Wall of North Carolina, Sandy Potts (Richard) of North Carolina, Jeannette Custer of North Carolina and Rodney Custer (Kayla) of North Carolina. He is also survived by six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
