Rebecca A (Benson) Lewis Obituary

Rebecca A. (Benson) Lewis of Cattaraugus, NY passed from life into the arms of Jesus on January 19, 2022 lovingly surounded with family and loved ones. Rebecca was born on October 29, 1947 into the family of the late Corinth and Velma (Rager) Benson of New Albion, NY. Upon graduation from Cattaraugus Central Schools in 1965 she began working at the former Tri-County Memorial Hospital; the former Gowanda Psychiatric Center and J.N. Adams DDSO until her retirement. A devout christian since the age of nine she attended the New Albion Community Church. She was active as a Sunday school teacher and was part of a traveling youth choir under the direction of Reverend Reed. Rebecca and her family were active members of the United Methodist Church in Cattaraugus until its closure. She had many interests which included being an avid artist, baker, gardener, making homemade braided rugs, visiting antique shops, finding new restaurants and enjoying "road trips" around the area from her childhood. Rebecca enjoyed music from the 60's, 70's and especially music that conveyed her deep and abiding faith. She had a wicked sense of humor and always looked for opportunities to fill the room with laughter.The time Rebecca spent with her family she deeply treasured and often expressed as one of God's greatest blessings. She is survived by her three children Kelly A. Lewis of Gowanda, Jason (Amy) Lewis of North Collins and Kristy (Michael) Coulter of Winter Garden, Florida; the very proud grandmother of Aleisha Grace Catalon of Gowanda, Jesse Frank Thompson of Olean, Audrey Sophea Lewis, Gabriel Corinth Lewis, Adah Louise Lewis, Behrett Eiuin Lewis and Thatcher Havelock Lewis all of North Collins, Korinthia Ann Coulter and Maks Michael Coulter of Florida; one great grandson Logan James Smith of Gowanda;Rebecca Sue Skinner who was an importaint part of the family and was given the privledge of calling Rebecca Grandma; her siblings Corinth Benson, Vivian Gould, David Benson, Calvin Benson, Jeanette Thalheimer and Clifford (Kathleen) Benson. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents she was preceeded in death by her two sisters Jenny Stebbins and Velma Benson. Relatives and friends may visit Roberts Memorial Free Methodist Church 111 South St. Cattaraugus, NY Wednesday January 26, 2022 from 4PM to 7PM where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 11AM with Pastor Mike Jones officiating. Interment will be in Liberty Park Cemetery.
