He was predeceased by: his wife Cassondra James (Mangan); his son Titus; and his father John Flora. He is survived by: his children, Isaac James, Alice James, Priscilla Mulligan (Nick), Philip James, Jenni James, Christian James (Jenna), Thomas R. James, Eben James and Noah James; his grandchildren, Sean, Isabelle Lynn, Alexander Mulligan, Declan and Baby James; his mother Rebekah Canaan; his stepparents, Joshua Ben Canaan and Judy Flora; and his sister Teri Lynn Lloyd (Rick).
