He was predeceased by: his parents, Carlton Blackwell and Hazel E. Blackwell (Petrie); his daughter Fredrica "Rikki" Barkley; and his sisters, Elaine Schloeder and Phyllis Schwartz.
He is survived by: his children, Carlton J. Blackwell (Marsha), Pugwash, James M. Blackwell of Butner, NC and Leonard J. Blackwell (Sheryl) of Durham, NC.; and his grandchildren, Jessica, Adam, Samantha, Brandon, Riley, James Michael and Henry. He is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
