He was predeceased by: his parents, John LeRoy and Irene Downing (Champion); his brother John "Gary" Downing; his stepfather George Buck Jr.; his sons, Billy Joe and Leon Downing; and his half-sisters, Diane and Louise Downing.
He is survived by: his stepfather Theisher Construction; his wife Sharon VerBeck; his children, Tessa Prince of Antwerp, NY and Gail LeRoy Downing of Carthage, NY; his sisters, Marlene Landes (Bob) of Bliarcliff Manor, NY and Linda Moody (John) of Carthage, NY; and his stepsisters, Carol Laning of Watertown, NY and Sandy Tilliston of Auburn, NY. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, and nine and three quarters great-grandchildren (one on the way); and many extended family.
