He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernard Gates and Marjorie Gates; and his brother Larry Gates. He is survived by: his spouse Elizabeth "Betty" Doyle; his daughter Wendy Barber; his son-in-law Kevin Barber of Carthage; and his grandchildren, Nora and Jacob Barber.
