He was predeceased by: his daughter Jeanne Marie Bates; and his siblings, Kenneth Martin Bates, Jr. and Joanne Marie Bates. He is survived by: his close friends, Ruby and Rocky; his wife Janet Bates (DeSalvo); his children, Joseph Bates (Katie Hunt) of Carmel and Danielle Bates-Misicka (Bill) of Carmel; his grandchildren, Hunter Joseph Bates and Dallas Joseph Bates; his parents, Kenneth Martin and Edith Bates, Sr. (DeRonda); and his siblings, Roseanna Bates, Patrick Bates, Kimberly Barrows and Jonathan Bates (Jessica). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Since he loved all animals, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Danny's memory to Putnam County Humane Society.
