He is survived by: his wife Darlene K. Miller; his sons, Thomas Coates Jr. of Canastota, David Coates of Canastota and Shawn Coates of Canastota; his grandchildren, Hillary Coates, Ethan Coates, Catherine "Catie" Coates, Courtney, Michael Ross and Rebecca "Becca" Coates; his great grandchild Beau Ross; and his parents-in-law, Kathy Coates, Amy Coates, Judy Coates and Junior Wilcox. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins.
