He was predeceased by: his brother Donald Gerstner; and his mother Virginia Gerstner. He is survived by: his wife Charlene Gerstner (Andrews); his children, Gretchen Mae Gerstner, Cori Gerstner and Heath Gerstner (Jennifer); his grandchildren, Patrick Johnson (Angela), Catherine Hadsell (David), Margaret Housel, Lindsey Bergstrom, Virginia Bergstrom, Jessica Granger (Austin) and Clayton Gerstner (Kari); his brothers, David Gerstner (Nancy), John Gerstner, Daniel Gerstner (Sherry), Tim Gerstner (Paulette), Michael Gerstner (Judy) and Clark Gerstner (Terri); and his sister-in-law Sue Gerstner. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
