He was predeceased by: his parents, Arthur A. Diehl and Ethel A. Keim Diehl; and his brother Arthur Diehl. He is survived by: his wife Alice V. Gain Diehl; his children, Peter Diehl, Jr. (Janice), Thomas Diehl (Jennifer), Adam Diehl (Annette) and Brenda Hofer (Matthew); and his siblings, William Diehl (Carole), John Diehl, Sr. (Helen) and Elizabeth "Betty" Long of Callicoon, NY. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and some cousins.
