George McDaniel wrote a sympathy message

“JV and I have known each other since we were 5 years old. We got our Cub Scout Webelos Badges the same night in a ceremony at East End Elementary School. Our pictures were in the local newspaper next day and we were celebrities for a day. We graduated in the class of 1963 at Dillard High School. I respected JV as I did few other people as he was always a solid rock in his principles with a generous spirit and a full heart. I will miss knowing he is abroad on the planet. George McDaniel”
