Genevieve (Urbansk) Zengierski Obituary
With great sadness, we report that Genevieve “Jenny” Zengierski (nee Urbanski) died peacefully on Jan. 3, 2025. She had a long and fulfilling life as a quintessential homemaker and was 93 years old when she passed.
Born on August 30, 1931 to the late Leo and Mary Urbanski, Jenny grew up near the railroad where her father was a craftsman. She was the eldest of three daughters, along with Lorraine Smolarek (Dan) and Mary Jane Grey. She was preceded in death by both of her younger sisters as well as her nephew Daniel Smolarek and sister-in-law Mary Banasiak (Arthur).
In 1956, she married Leon Zengierski, whom she affectionately referred to as “Pat” after his father who was a well-known boxer and athletic trainer. Jenny is survived by her husband and sons Patrick and James (his wife, Sylvia, and daughter, Sophia) as well as her niece Christine Bussler (Buzz) and nephews Dennis and David Smolarek.
As a mother, Jenny had a very strong commitment to her family as well as her local community, her home was always immaculate and open to all friends and neighbors. She especially enjoyed gardening, knitting, shopping, and baking her delicious apple pie and Christmas cookies to share with all.
In 1990, her husband was transferred to Dallas, Texas where they were joined by their younger son James and his bride, Sylvia who gave birth to their only grandchild Sophia. In Dallas, Jenny entertained old friends and new family members, such as introducing them to her favorite Southwestern fajitas and exploring the varied cuisine and culture of Texas.
Thereafter, another job relocation moved the family to Princeton, New Jersey where she helped James and his family establish their new home. Jenny loved walking her dog along the trails of Carnegie Lake, collecting seashells with her granddaughter near the ocean in Spring Lake and flying kites on the beach in Ship Bottom during the summers.
Nearing retirement, Jenny and her husband returned to her birthplace in Buffalo, New York to help their son Patrick, in service of the Catholic Church.
A memorial service will take place at St Paul’s Church in Princeton, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to a charity of your choice that benefits children.
