It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jerry Walter Burton of Brooklyn, New York, who passed away on April 10, 2025, at the age of 74, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, George Christopher Burton and Eula Marie Hill Burton; his son Orpheus Burton; his brother Ronnie Burton; and his grandparents, Lorenzo Burton, Channie Burton and Fannie Jones Hill.
He is survived by: his wife Cosaundra Burton; his sons, Justin Burton (Dasheena), Jevon Burton (Latesha) and Christopher Burton; his grandchildren, Myron, Taneya, Darius, Jasmine, Charlie and Alani; his sisters, Reverend Cynthia Smith (Willie) and Jean Oliver; his nephew Dave Smith (Timothy Oliver); his nieces, Shannon Williams (Charles) and Dr. Melanie Smith Whittingham (Ronnie); his great-nephew Aqiron Smith; his great-niece Hannah Newton; and his aunts and uncles, Barbara Burden, William Lorenzo Burton, Ernest Burden, Ida Dixon and Alberta Thomas. He is also survived by relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held on Saturday, April 26th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the St. James A. M. E. Zion Church (8747 NC-58, Maysville, NC 28555). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 26th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
