He was predeceased by: his parents, Mae Taylor and Edgar Hewlett; his siblings, Lois Thayer Jervis, Herbert Louis "Poody" Hewlett, Edward V. Hewlett and Wilburn "Woody" Hewlett; and his son Ernest Lee Hewlett (Heidi Mary Reed Johnson).

He is survived by: his children, Rasheen Rodgers and Bashar Hewlett; and his grandchildren, Ashlee Hewlett, Journee Rodgers and Jewell Rodgers.
