He was predeceased by: his parents, Carlton Elder and Irene Hinton Elder; and his siblings, Lorene Cunningham, Magnelia Hairston, Ellen Henderson, Frances Boyd, Barbara Elder, Carlton Elder, Jr., Charlie Lea, Sam Mendenhall and Cornelius Elder.
He is survived by: his spouse Ola Cheeks Elder; his children, Aris Johnson of Queens, NY, Jessica Saunders of Danville, VA, Edward Elder of Danville, VA and Clarence Elder, Jr. of Danville, VA; and his brothers, Nathaniel Elder (Dorrett) of Manassas, VA and James Elder (Ruby) of Belmont, NC. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
