He was predeceased by: his wife Shirley; and his brothers, Clifford and Norman Laney. He is survived by: his children, Karen Smith, Rae Ellen Meeker (Dave), James Laney (Lori), Thomas Laney (Cheryl) and Laura Lindsey (Scott); his grandchildren, Jillian, Kyle Smith, Laney Meeker, Jessica Coakley (Matt), Matt Laney (Caroline), Kate McGee, Sarah Laney, Taylor, Eric and Kevin Lindsey; and his great grandchildren, Olivia, Emma Coakley, Amelia and Isabel Laney.
