He was predeceased by: his parents, Walter O'Brien and Lucille O'Brien. He is survived by: his stepfather William Flanagan; his wife Helen; his sons, Robert (Kathy) and Richard (Sheila); his grandchildren, Andrea, Bobby, Erick, Kayla, Corey and Joshua; and his great grandchildren, Brendon, Brianna, Lilly, Elijah and Silas.
