He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Walter Matthews and Dorothy Matthews (Williams); his significant other Joanne Davis; his children, Gregory Matthews (Yvonne) and Laurie Matthews; his grandchildren, Gregory Matthews, Scott Matthews, Zander Buswinka, Leila Buswinka, Ashlie Jensen, Bob Matthews and Mark Matthews; his sister-in-law Clare Davis; and his mother-in-law Ann Davis. He was also cherished by many friends and honorary nieces and nephews.
