He is survived by: his wife Stella Bates; his children, Donna Yu (Jay), Doreen Lundquist (Paul), George Bates (Helen), Kathleen McDowell, Phillip J. Bates (Myra), Anna Dorn, Lisa Roberts, Michael Roberts (Joanne) and Duane Roberts (Amy); and his brother Daniel Bates (Theda). He is also survived by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
