“As I write this from London, my heart aches for the loss of my dear friend, John. I knew J.J. in Australia as far back as 1973 and our friendship continued all these years through regular letters, cards, reminisces and jokes. My lifelong respect for a decent and intelligent man continues after his passing. I was grateful, but saddened, to receive his final writing on a card telling me of his fate in a last, lovely thought from one so considerate. I sailed with J.J. on Sydney Harbour. I sail on.”
