He was predeceased by: his parents, Samuel W. McElroy and Wreatha Weiss McElroy; his wife Elaine LaPoint; and his siblings, Anna Mae Conklin, Marvin Weiss and Rosemary Greenwood.
He is survived by: his children, Samuel J. McElroy (Beth), Sandra Bellinger and Carol Taylor; his grandchildren, Nicole E. McElroy (Thomas), Samuel A. McElroy, Connor P. McElroy (Cecelia), Jodi Mulvaney, Joseph Bellinger, Joshua Bellinger, Stephanie M. Taylor (Brian) and Robert W. Taylor; his great grandchild Brendan; and his sisters, Linda Yager (Nelson) and Norma Myers. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Sam was awarded the Silver Beaver Award and George S. Meany Award the highest awards given to honor a person's significant contribution to Boy Scouts.
