He was predeceased by: his parents, John Young and Linda Young (Fuller); his wife Esther Buchanan; and his siblings, Evelyn Skowronek, Edwin and Everett Young.
He is survived by: his children, Denis Young (Christine Amirault) and Darla Colvard (Tom); his grandchildren, Stephen Young (Vanessa), Kevin Young, Mark Young (Jaime), Monica Bennett (Heath), Brent Knapp (Heather) and Lisa Knapp; his great grandchildren, Aleshia, Lindsey, Nicholas, Kippan, Kinsey, Logan, Lawson, Khloe Young and Caitlin Knapp; and his close friends, Doris Bird, Robert and Ellie Pierson.
Memorial contributions may be made in Thornton's name to the Greenlawn Cemetery Association.
