“I met DeWitt 3 years ago in a field south of Cooperstown. We were both resting on a bench tired from walking through a field full of wares for sale. She gave me her card and I thought about her often. Our short talk showed me her strength, her courage, and her love for nature and the arts. I always intended to get in touch with her again. Unfortunately, I lost her card, and when I found it today, I attempted to contact her and found this obituary instead. I feel a loss at not knowing her better. My sympathies to all of you whose lives she touched much more than mine. May God bless you all.”
