He was predeceased by: his brother Hugh; and his son Douglas Patrick Hilly. He is survived by: his significant other Joyce Stalter Hilly; his son Christopher; his daughter-in-law Megan; his grandsons, Douglas, Kieran, Everett and Garrett; and his siblings, Maryellen (Dean Stiffle), Kevin and Jim (Nancy Griffin). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and lifelong friends.

Visitation was held on Sunday, March 30th 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. (1225 Montauk Hwy, West Islip, NY 11795). A funeral Mass was held on Monday, March 31st 2025 at 9:30 AM at the St. Joseph's R. C. Church (39 N Carll Ave, Babylon, NY 11702). A graveside service was held on Monday, March 31st 2025 at the St. Joseph's Cemetery (810 Sunrise Hwy, West Babylon, NY 11704).
