She is survived by: her children, Keith Catchings and Kathy Mahabir; her son-in-law Michael Mahabir; her grandchildren, Ryan and Melanie; and her siblings, Marie Morris, Ruby Walker and George. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joan received numerous accolades for her contributions to the National Council of Negro Women, including organizing health fairs, women's health teaching, scholarships, and fundraising events.
