He is survived by: his wife Linda McGuire (Wendelen); his sons, Brian McGuire, Madalyn, Koslyn, Issac, Christopher McGuire and Shawn McGuire (Dale LaBelle-Dunscombe); his siblings, Judith Ganoe, Thomas McGuire and Rick McGuire; and his grandsons, Bentley and Jacob.

“John will always be remembered for watching over his co-workers at the end of each day, standing vigilantly in the library's doorway until everyone was safe. No matter how cold it felt, John wouldn't abandoned his post until we all removed snow from our cars and drove home. This was one of the many unselfish ways John distinguished himself as an everyday hero: He consistently put our safety above his own comfort. He was one of the best and bravest men I ever knew. KZ”
