He is survived by: his wife Anna Mathews; his children, Gerlinde Mathews, John Samuel Mathews, IV, Dan, Tammy Mathews (Packer), Raymond and Casey Mathews (Fitzgerald); his sister Louella Miller; and his grandchildren, Darrick Mathews, Jacob Mathews, Danny Myers, Anneliese Myers, Ellie Mathews and Hannah Mathews.
