He was predeceased by: his sister Alma Porter (late George). He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Schmitt; his children, Catherine Wrona, John Jr., Marie Fehr (Jeffrey), Theresa O'Connor, Joseph (Dawn) and Suzanne Duermyer (Edwin); and his brother Norbert Schmitt (Helen). He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
