She was predeceased by: her parents, John Gurney and June Gurney (Earnst); and her husband Gregory T. Schmitt. She is survived by: her children, Kara Schmitt (Ryan Kelly), Ashley Schmitt and Kristian Schmitt; her stepsons, Karl Schmitt (Amanda) and Kurt Schmitt (Cathy); and her brother John C. Gurney (Theresa). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Orleans County Joint Veterans Council, 13996 Route 31 Albion, NY 14411.
