He is survived by: his wife Annie M. Fitzgerald; his children, Robert Fitzgerald and Michelle Tropiano; his grandchild Camisha Lundy (Lamar); his siblings, John Anderson, Ann Renz (Truman), Ruth Allgaier and Carole Marmulstein (Brian); his grandchildren, Quayvaun Young, Khadijah Davis, Chrisiah Smith, Michael Tropiano and Nicholas Tropiano; his great grandchild Jeremias Morton; his nephew Andrew Douglas; his nieces, Johna and Marisa; his friend Edward Bardon; and his cousins, Janice Clandy and Bruce Robinson.

Visitation was held on Monday, February 17th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the McVeigh Funeral Home, Inc. (208 N Allen St, Albany, NY 12206). A funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, February 18th 2025 at 9:00 AM at the Blessed Sacrament Church (607 Central Ave, Albany, NY 12206).

“I was saddened to hear of Doug's passing. We worked together at the 1st Battalion 210th Armor on New Scotland Avenue. I remember Doug to be quick witted and extremely good at trivia. He was the main reason we enjoyed Lunch on Pyx 106 radio station, OMS 18 and Doug were reigning champions for many weeks. Doug was always fun to be around. CSM(ret) John J. Willsey.”
