He was predeceased by: his parents, George Mertens and Mary Johnson Mertens; his wife Doris Mertens; and his son Michael Mertens. He is survived by: his children, Robert Mertens (Patti) of Buffalo, Deborah Kiel (Michael) of Cheektowaga, Todd Mertens (Laurie Ann) of Cheektowaga and Patricia Sherron (late Walter) of Richmond, VA.; and his daughter-in-law Ginny Mertens of Arizona. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at a later date due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
