Richard Counsil Obituary

WOOD RIVER — Richard "Wayne" Counsil, Sr., 82, of Sparks, Nevada, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family on Aug. 10, 2018. Wayne was born Monday, Feb. 3, 1936 to Ellis and Nellie DeWitt Counsil in the family home in Wood River, Illinois. After graduating from Wood River High School, Wayne married classmate Shirley Lindquist, having three boys Rick, Greg, and Tim.

Wayne later attended Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville where he would meet wife Wanda and graduate with a degree in English and Psychology. Wayne and Wanda moved to Sparks in 1975, where they would raise son Christopher and daughter Allison. Wayne was the proprietor of Wayne's Art Supplies in Reno and worked for the Washoe County School District until his retirement in 1997.

When Wayne entered a person's life, they were better for knowing him. Wayne was a kind and gentle man, who was strong and dignified with a razor-sharp wit and stunning intelligence. Wayne's interests included his family, a love of sports, an appreciation for the arts, and a fascination with history. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, five siblings and sons Greg and Rick.

He is survived by wife Wanda and children Tim of Sacramento and Christopher and Allison of Sparks.
