Wesley Jay Dunn Obituary

Wesley Jay Dunn passed away in Reno, Nevada, on Friday, March 31, 2023. He was 23 years old.

Wesley was born on April 2, 1999 in Reno, Nevada, to the late Darrell Dunn and Jennie Burns. Wesley spent his youth raised in Nixon, Nevada, and then moved to Wadsworth, Nevada, until his untimely death. He attended Nixon Head Start, Natchez Elementary School and Pyramid Lake Jr/Sr High School all located on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Reservation.

Wesley decided he wanted to go to high school in another state. He chose Chemewa Indian School, located in Salem, Oregon. This started his love for traveling and seeing new places, he rarely went back home to Nevada. During his summer breaks Wesley worked at the Ant Farm which taught him hard work, community mindness, persistence and perseverance. Wesley graduated from Chemawa Indian School in 2017.

Wesley stayed and worked in Oregon for a year. He then moved to Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where he held several jobs locally. This was the happiest time of his adult life; however, being the rolling stone that he was, Wesley moved to Globe, Arizona, to live closer to his sister Ashley and sister-in-law Megan. Wesley worked for Freeport-McMoRan Mine in Miami, Arizona. After a year in Arizona, he moved back to Oregon and then eventually back home to Wadsworth, Nevada. He worked for the Pyramid Lake Tribal Enterprise as a retail clerk at I-80 Smoke Shop. This is where he met the best co-workers who became his second family.

Wesley is preceded in death by his father, Darrell; paternal grandparents, Richard and Christine Dunn; brother, Kendall Henry Jr.; maternal great-grandparents, Tony Sr. and Katherine Sanchez. He is survived by his mother, Jennie Burns; sisters Ashley Henry (Megan), Collette Auguh-Dunn (David) and Tanya Dunn, brothers Jordan and Gerald Dunn; nephews Depwunu Auguh and Sage Becerra; nieces Ariel Torivio and Hayden Belvado; Togo'o, Ralph and Maxine Burns; Moo'a, Anita Sanchez;. Special Grandmother Karen Christensen; Fur babies Oliver Eugene Mestes and Gypsy Tseabe Dunn; Numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

Wesley loved listening to music of all genres, reading books, traveling and taking hiking adventures with his mom or friends. He made friends easily and has kept friends from his childhood to adulthood. Wesley impacted a lot of people by listening – he was an old soul who knew how to make people feel at ease. He will be missed tremendously.

Services for Wesley will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at the Nixon Gymnasium in Nixon, Nevada. Viewing will take place at 10 AM. Funeral service at 11 AM. Interment will be immediately following at Nixon Cemetery.
