He is survived by: his parent Viola Kates (Harwick); his sons, Brian K. Kates, Micah A. Kates of Lansford, Claudine Rivera and George Bieber; and his siblings, Lawrence, Clarence, Viola Bachert, Patricia Van Luvanee and Lilian Guth.
