Mary Gallo Obituary
My Mom, Mary Gallo, was born in Torre del Greco, Italy on October 6, 1923. She passed away on June 19, 2019 at the age of 95. She lived in Brooklyn, New York & then New Port Richey, Florida.
She moved to Las Vegas September of 2017. She had a bad fall in September, 2017 & I took her to live with me. She was already in Stage 4 breast cancer, Stage 4 kidney disease, diabetes, glaucoma.
In 2018 she was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. She was a very strong woman & fought all of this as best as she could. In May 2019 she had the stomach flu & went to the hospital.
There she was diagnosed with a serious blood infection which needed 6 wks. of IV antibiotics. Unfortunately there was only one rehab that would take her & the reviews were horrible. Her health failed while she was there.
They did nothing when she stopped eating, drinking, losing weight & that she kept falling out of bed. She was to be released on June 18 to go to a group home close to my house. I had many plans for her.
The night before, on June 17 she fell out of bed & the rehab sent her to the hospital. I was told once she was in the ambulance she had respiratory distress & they had to put in a breathing tube. When I saw her, she was semi-coherent but couldn't talk because of the breathing tube.
She was trying to tell us something but we will never know what it was, as she couldn't talk. Because of her fall, her bowel ruptured & at her age surgery was out of the question. In addition, her infection had spread throughout her whole body.
The rehab said her infection was gone over a week ago. My children drove in quickly from California & my friends from the YMCA were there to give me some support. The next day, June 19, I had to disconnect life support & watch my mother die.
This happened due to the negligence & incompetence of the rehab. She joins my father & sister in Heaven. Angelo Gallo who passed away in 1990 & Louise Miller who passed away in 1992.
She leaves behind myself, Rina Cicero, her daughter, her three grandchildren, Stephanie & David Cicero & Adam Miller & her son-in-law & daughter-in-law, Scott & Connie Miller & also our dog Coconut. She enjoyed traveling, bingo & slots, cooking, going out to eat, going to the movies, watching game shows & when she was younger she enjoyed going to the beach.
