Ben Africa wrote a sympathy message

“I guess with age comes putting things off that one thinks need to be done. In this case it was getting in touch with Loren. We worked with Loren at the old Washoe Medical Center. He and I hunted deer, the last time in Northern Washoe. We shared many a good time together with both our families. I even remember naming his youngest daughter, Yucca Flats, for her striking almost yellow hair. I remember after I left the hospital and joined Reno PD, Loren went to work for the state parks. I always thought Loren too kind to be a park ranger, specially with the people he had to deal with at some of the parks. But he prevailed and retired. We lost touch for years and then he found us in Reno. But we moved to Fernley and again lost touch. Now back in the Reno area I told the wife a couple days ago that we needed to get in touch with Loren. But alas today I open the paper and there is Loren, bidding a final adieu. Loren was one of the nicest persons I ever met, mild mannered, at times seeming to be too gentle to take even a mouse's life. I sorry that we didn't keep in touch. Not sure if we met his wife, but we send our condolences to her and the girls. Loren will be missed by all who knew him and those that know of him.”
