He was predeceased by: his wife Thelma Mares; his parents, Frank Mares and Julia Mares; his mother-in-law Odila Medina; his brothers-in-law, Danny and Moises Medina; his niece Patricia Medina; and his godson Ruben Gonzales.
He is survived by: his sons, Francisco D. Mares (Mario Martinez) and Jaime D. Mares (Vanessa); his grandchildren, Daniel, Danika and Dustin Mares; his siblings, David Mares, Patsy Padilla (Leo), Rose Mares, Cecilia Martinez, Betty Mares and Lorraine Martinez (Donald); his father-in-law Tony Medina; his sisters-in-law, Berlinda Montoya (Joe), Melba Trujillo (Bobby), Charlene Austin (Dean), Doreen Martinez (Joaquin) and Brenda Medina; and his godchildren, Felicia Cardenas (Richard) and Julian Vigil. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, extended family and close friends.
