He was predeceased by: his wife Elsie M. Benavidez; his parents, Samuel E. Fernandez and Dalfinia Vigil Fernandez; his siblings, Juanito Fernandez, Alfredo Fernandez, Antonio "Tony" Fernandez, Bonifacio Fernandez, Teresita Fernandez, Filia Maestas, Elosia Maestas and Miquelita Tafoya; and his grandsons, Stuart Van Dyke and Jonathan Fernandez.
He is survived by: his children, Rose Marie Esquibel (Walter), Samuel E. Fernandez, Catherine Van Dyke (Kym), John Steve Fernandez (Dixie), Barbara Madrid (Ricky), Betty Segura (David) and Rita Palacios (Robert).
