He was predeceased by: his parents, Juan Sarate, Sr. and Francesquita Sarate; and his siblings, Tom Sarate, Juan "Barney" Sarate, Jr., Leonce Sarate and Mary Gonzales.
He is survived by: his wife Veronica "Betty" Silva; and his children, Priscilla Anaya (Gilbert), Berna Montoya (Anthony), Flora Sarate and Thomas Sarate (Stephanie). He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 16 great-granchildren and 5 great great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
